Secluded Waters in Northern Iowa

Mud Lake is located 15 miles east of Spencer, Iowa, and 25 miles southeast of Spirit Lake.

Spencer is home to a Walmart, chain restaurants, schools, and Spencer Hospital. The Fort Dodge Regional Airport is around an hour and a half away for easy travel.

Spirit Lake is best known as the home of Iowa’s Great Lakes, but it also offers a selection of attractions and waterfront restaurants.

A Simple Life

The majority of Mud Lake’s shoreline is occupied by state game management areas. A small community of homes has made this natural oasis a well-kept secret of northern Iowa.

It is neighbored by Lost Island Lake, a better-known lake that is still secluded. Lost Island-Huston Park features a lake beach and boat ramp.

It is greatly enjoyed for boating, water sports, swimming, and angling. Bass, perch, northern pike, and bluegill are caught from the waters.
